We are recruiting participants for the SMILE Study!

We are hoping to learn more about families' experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic and looking for families to help with a study!

Do you have a child entering first or second grade in Fall 2020?

If so, you are eligible to participate in the Self-regulation and Motivation in Learning Environments (SMILE) study! Our study focuses on the development of children's self-regulation skills and motivation during the elementary school years.

What would you do in the study?

​There are three parts to this study:

  1. An online survey in spring 2020 (60-75 minutes, compensation is $35)

  2. An online survey in fall 2020 (45-60 minutes, compensation is $30)

  3. A visit to our research lab at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's city campus during the 2020-2021 school year (2 hours, compensation is $70)

  • Play computer tablet games, puzzles, and assessments of self-regulation and problem solving

  • Complete parent and child questionnaires

Who is eligible?

  • English-speaking children entering first or second grade in fall 2020 and their parent/guardian

  • Must live within driving distance of UNL and able to drive there during the 2020-2021 school year

In appreciation for your time, you will receive a total of $135 for participating in all three parts of the study and your child will receive a gift!
